da betsson: Arsenal fans have had to deal with disappointing news on the injury front lately following Santi Cazorla’s setback, so confirmation that three first-team players are on their way back to fitness was welcomed.
da cassino: Per Mertesacker, Hector Bellerin and Olivier Giroud were all out on the training pitch on Monday ahead of the Gunners’ Champions League group match against Basel.
Manager Arsene Wenger has been unable to call upon striker Giroud since late November due to a thigh problem, while Bellerin has been out of action for almost a month with an ankle injury.
Both were put through their paces, but only one will be in tonight’s Champions League squad, and that is Giroud, who comes in for the suspended Francis Coquelin.
Bellerin is not quite ready yet, but it is encouraging news that the full-back, who recently signed a new long-term deal, is back out on the training field in the run-up to the hectic festive schedule.
Club captain Mertesacker has not played a single minute of football in the 2016-17 campaign because of a knee injury suffered during a pre-season friendly in July.
Despite the fact that the defender will probably have limited game time due to the strong partnership of Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi, the fans are happy to see the German edging closer to full fitness.
