da marjack bet: Since he took over at the start of last summer Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has not been afraid to splash the cash. United have spent well over £200m in that time, bringing a number of big names to the club including Angel Di Maria, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Marcos Rojo.
da aviator aposta: And the Dutch boss has shown no signs of ending his spending spree with countless reports through the summer having claimed that Barcelona winger Pedro was a target. However, we all know now that the 28-year-old is Chelsea-bound after a shock twist.
Whilst there is little doubt that the Spanish international is a wonderful talent and would improve nearly any side, he was never the player United truly needed.
Currently the Red Devils already have a wealth of attacking talent in midfield, such as Memphis Depay, Juan Mata, Marouane Fellaini, Adnan Januzaj and Ashley Young. All of those stars are capable of nailing down one of the spots behind the strikers.
The area in dire need of work is that all-important striking position.
Currently Wayne Rooney is the main man at United, he plays as the lone striker with youngster James Wilson and Javier Hernandez his back-ups. This just isn’t going to work for a full season and if United persist with it they will struggle to finish top four, let alone challenge for the title.
From the first two games its plain to see Rooney can not play the ‘No.9’ role as the lone forward – he hasn’t even managed a single shot on target in either of the fixtures against Spurs or Aston Villa. Rooney’s style is to play the ‘No.10’ position, coming deep to get the ball and build up the attack from the midfield. He is used to having a forward further up the field to aim at, so now there is often just an empty space where Rooney should be.
Van Gaal needs to invest in a world-class striker to play alongside Rooney. One that comes alive in and around the box, a real poacher in a similar mould to United greats Ruud van Nistelrooy, Andy Cole or Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. James Wilson is only young and is too experienced to handle the responsibility and Javier Hernandez was deemed surplus to requirements by his manager last year, so there is already clearly a significant amount of doubt about his ability.
With all the creative talent in the side it should be a no-brainer. That United midfield is capable of creating bucket loads of chances, but they lack the striker in those areas to aim for.
There are a number of these big names out there itching for the chance to play for one of the biggest sides on the planet. The likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Karim Benzema and Thomas Muller would be great choices to fill the gap, and all three have been the subject of regular reports linking them with moves away from their current sides.
The trio are natural goalscorers that come alive in the penalty area, and if any were to move to United they would provide a massive confidence boost and most likely lead the club towards a title challenge.
Van Gaal needs to realise this massive issue sooner rather than later and beg the United board to invest in a goalscorer.
