da esoccer bet: Manchester United’s winning start to the season seems quite some time ago. Three defeats on the bounce against Manchester City, Watford and Feyenoord had criticism for Jose Mourinho and many of United’s players laid at their feet.
da luck: It’s not just the form of the side but the manner Mourinho has his team playing means there is room for improvement with a number of his top-stars. Some of the club’s summer signings have failed to settle quickly into life in England and have become passengers instead of stars at the Manchester giants.
Jose Mourinho has spoken publicly when he has been critical of his players. A number of the club’s leading players have been a major factor in United falling six points behind bitter rivals Manchester City.
Here are three players that need to step up against champions Leicester if United don’t wish to fall a potential nine points behind City…
Paul Pogba
‘Pogback’ was the title of his return to Manchester United but it’s fair to say Pogba is back in the same form that saw him depart Old Trafford in such a controversial manner in 2012.
The French international returned to Manchester United this summer for a world-record £89million fee but it’s fair to say he hasn’t performed anywhere near his worth. Zero goals, zero assists and a passenger in midfield mean Saturday’s game against Leicester will be the perfect chance for Pogba to prove his critics wrong.
Wayne Rooney
Rooney’s legacy at Manchester United is beginning to take a sour turn. The England forward has been converted into a midfield role under Jose Mourinho and Rooney’s world-class ability now looks a lifetime ago. His failure to deliver big game performances has seen a number of United fans turn on Rooney.
His performance in the Manchester derby defeat to City came with much disapproval from the Old Trafford faithful. Rooney struggled to keep possession on a number of occasions and continues to prove ineffective in-front of goal. Would a goal against Leicester end all criticism of England’s record goalscorer?
Luke Shaw
The left-back was publicly humiliated by manager Jose Mourinho following United’s 3-1 defeat to Watford. Shaw was blamed by the United boss for some of Watford’s goals, despite suffering from a knock.
Shaw will now go into the game against Leicester with a point to prove once again. The 21-year-old is no stranger to bouncing back as he has returned from a career threatening leg break to look an even better player than he was previously.
