da brdice: Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has unsurprisingly been named the club’s new captain.
da bet nacional: The 35-year-old has been at the North-West outfit for the past 11 years following his 2006 switch from Tottenham Hotspur.
He is the most natural successor to Wayne Rooney, who vacated the armband when he returned to his boyhood club Everton on a tw-year deal at the weekend.
Carrick is one of the most experienced players in Jose Mourinho’s squad, and he will now lead the Red Devils in the 2017-18 campaign.
After being officially named as captain, the midfielder told MUTV:
“It feels great and it is such a huge honour to captain such a great club. It is my 12th year now and I came as a 25 year old. I never thought I could be here for so long and achieve so much.
“Now, to lead the boys and look after the young boys, to guide them in some ways, it is a nice thing and a real pleasure. I came to this club as a footballer and I am now a huge fan. I have grown to love the club over the years and to be in this position is very special for me.”
Over the last few days, United fans have been talking about the £75m arrival of Romelu Lukaku from Everton, but now the focus has switched to Carrick.
When the announcement was made on Twitter, United fans gave their reactions, and as expected, many were happy with the appointment.
During his spell at United, Carrick has won 12 trophies, including five Premier League titles, three League Cups, the FA Cup and the Champions League.
