da dobrowin: Arsenal are in talks with Lorient to sign young French midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, according to Sky Sports.
What’s the story, then?
da poker: The report says that Unai Emery is closing in on the 19-year-old, who has played for his country at Under 20 level as he looks to bolster his midfield ahead of his debut season in English football.
Last season was the first when he established himself in the first-team, featuring 20 times in a campaign that saw Lorient finish 7th in Ligue 2.
Sky Sports report that the fee will be in the region of £8m, although Transfermarkt only value him at £2.25m, indicating that Arsenal may be on course to pay over the odds.

It would be a Wenger-style signing
As much as Emery has to plan for the future, this signing looks very much like a Wenger-style swoop, on a player who is unlikely, given his previous experience, to be able to offer an immediate impact.
Emery may well be looking to bolster Arsenal’s engine room, stiffening it up after years where it has failed to offer protection to their defence, and it feels as if they, right now, need more than what the young Frenchman can offer.
Gunners fans may fear they’ve seen it all before on this one.
